Welcome to Sideris. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal data is collected, used, and protected when you use the Sideris mobile application to unlock the wonder of the night sky and facilitate your celestial discovery.
This policy is designed to strictly comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the requirements of the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

2. Data We Collect and How We Use It
Sideris is built as an offline-first application. However, to maintain app stability, process optional subscriptions, and improve plate-solving accuracy, we may collect limited data under specific conditions.
- A. Usage and Diagnostic Data (Firebase): To identify bugs and understand how the app performs across different devices, we use Google Firebase (Crashlytics and Analytics).
- What is collected: Device identifiers (e.g., Installation ID, Phone ID), device model, OS version, time of crash, and general app interaction data.
- Purpose: To monitor app stability and fix technical issues.
- Legal Basis: Your explicit Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You will be asked to opt-in to sharing analytics and crash data when you first launch the app.
- B. Payment and Subscription Data (RevenueCat): If you choose to unlock premium features via subscription or one-time purchase, we use RevenueCat to securely manage your entitlements.
- What is collected: An anonymous App User ID, purchase history, and subscription status. Note: All actual payment processing is handled securely by Apple or Google. Sideris never sees or stores your credit card information.
- Purpose: To grant access to paid features and synchronize your purchases across devices.
- Legal Basis: Performance of a Contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
- C. Images and Photos (Optional Uploads): Sideris performs plate-solving locally on your device. Your photos do not leave your phone by default.
- What is collected: If you encounter an error or wish to help improve the app's algorithms, you may voluntarily choose to send a specific image to the developer.
- Purpose: Debugging and improving plate-solving algorithms.
- Legal Basis: Your explicit Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You must actively trigger the upload for each individual image.
3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Processors
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with trusted third-party processors necessary for app operations. These processors are contractually obligated to protect your data and comply with global privacy standards:
- Google LLC (Firebase): For crash reporting and analytics. Data may be transferred to servers in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- RevenueCat Inc.: For subscription management. Data may be transferred to the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Apple (App Store) & Google (Play Store): For payment processing and app distribution.
4. Data Retention
- Diagnostic Data: Crash logs and analytics data held in Firebase are automatically deleted after 90 days.
- Subscription Data: Kept for the duration of your active subscription and for a limited period thereafter as required by financial record-keeping laws.
- Uploaded Images: Retained only as long as necessary to resolve the specific debug issue, after which they are permanently deleted.
5. Your GDPR Rights
Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): Request the deletion of your data.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: You can disable Firebase analytics and crash reporting at any time within the Sideris app settings.
- Right to Data Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

6. Children's Privacy
Sideris does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a minor without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information immediately.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes will be reflected in the "Effective Date" at the top of this document, and significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notification.
